Calculating the right amount of mosaic tile you need to order for your backsplash project.
Backsplash or Splash back as the names suggests is usually a wall behind a kitchen stove or sink, where splash or spills can happen anytime while working in the kitchen. These areas are prone to stains, grease, and discoloration by steam and build up places for microbes. Hence most of these places are tiled up for easy maintenance, cleaning and also provide with a beautiful backdrop in the kitchen area.
Easier said than done, these areas are hard to design and have to be carefully thought through, there are three basic rule of thumb to be followed.
1. Length of wall to be covered: Usually the standard wall to be covered is from the base of the shelf up to the cabinets, if there are any, or the standard length which can vary from 4 – 6 “. This factor is usually depended on the amount of money a customer is willing to pay or how much the actual necessity is.
2. Right color: Like the walls, floor and equipment around, backsplash can be either an artistic centerpiece which showcases a person’s personality and has to either match or be in contrast with the surroundings.
3. Type of tile: The shape, width and material of a backsplash tile matters a lot. Usually a textured tile will incur additional costs of installation as well care whereas metal tiles have to be taken care of in terms of not being scratch resistant, as well as they harder to clean.
Finances is the key controlling aspect for all of the mentioned above. A customer who wants quality work at reduced prices can maybe overlook the point of placing mosaic tiles all over the wall but rather place the tiles up to 4 feet and then get an interesting paint job done at much cheaper rates. Also it’s often said that with high price comes high quality which maybe in some cases not be true.
Now for calculating the right amount of mosaic a person needs, a customer needs to evaluate the area he or she needs to cover, the budget and the specific type of design they are looking for. Trends in terms of tile industry keep changing and many customers think in terms of style and not logical sides.
For kitchen backsplashes depending on the need one can cover the whole length from the shelf to the wall cabinet with mosaic tiles, that are idle to maintain and quite easy to clean and one can always amp up the style by innovating their own personal twist with them and can be the center pieces of any given kitchen. Though in an industrial kitchen one needs, soft easy tones with minimal maintenance and a good amount of coverage as well. Before ordering the final deal one should order samples just to try and test them, to see if they are as desired. Thus calculating the right amount of tiles a person needs is actually depended on the customer but the standard rule of having 4” will never change, do keep this in mind.
